Native of Talladega, Alabama, now rooted in Atlanta, Georgia. Brandon’s journey in the world of film is deeply intertwined with his upbringing in a family brimming with talent. Singing was their cornerstone; from his grandfather to his father and uncles - music flowed through their veins. Brandon followed that path and toured with the Alabama A&M Gospel Choir and performed across the USA.

The turning point came in 2003 and 2005 when, unfortunately he lost both of his parents. Creativity became my solace and a way to grieve. Writing gospel stage plays provided him with an outlet and became a successful endeavor on an independent level. In 2015, his passion took a new form when he directed his first film, XXI O’Day, and since then he has never looked back. This is when Brandon transitioned from singer to director.

The Joy of Directing

Brandon aka Brandon the Director’s favorite part of being a director is knowing he plays a pivotal role in helping others live their dreams.

Being obedient to God’s call to create has allowed him to build connections with cast members, forming bonds that often feel like family.

“It’s rewarding to see the trust my team places in me to lead, and I cherish the creative collaboration that happens on set.”

Managing the Set and Boosting Morale

Managing a set feels natural to Brandon, which comes from 20 years of experience as an educator. Much like classroom management, it’s about setting clear expectations and fostering a positive environment.

Before filming begins, he engages separately with the cast and crew, holding meetings, table reads, and rehearsals. Group chats and small-group rehearsals to help establish trust and build chemistry.

With a background in leading church groups and community efforts that has helpted hone in his ability to bring people together, ensuring efficiency while keeping morale high.

Cast and Crew

Commitment to Authenticity and Representation

As storytelling and cultural narratives evolve, Brandon remains committed to authenticity in his work. He continuously researches and educates himself to ensure his films represent diverse experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. To Brandon, representation is more than just a goal—it’s a responsibility. He strives to create inclusive stories that resonate with a broad audience, offering characters and narratives that reflect the complexities of real life.

A Memorable Moment on Set

One of Brandon’s most cherished experiences occurred during the production of his first film. Many of the cast and crew were stepping onto a film set for the first time, creating an environment filled with emotions, prayers, and a shared sense of purpose.

The deep connections formed during that project reaffirmed his passion for storytelling and his mission to create meaningful opportunities for others within the industry.

Reflecting on the Journey

Brandon’s advice is straight forward, yet powerful:

Create what you want. You can’t please everyone, but if you follow your passion, the right audience will find you. Trust your vision and embrace the journey.

From singer to playwright to filmmaker, the journey has been one of evolution, faith, and unwavering dedication. As he continues to tell stories that inspire and challenge audiences, he serves as a reminder that passion and perseverance can turn dreams into reality.
